Municipal Health and Safety Services, Long Island, NY

Walden prepared a 29 CFR 1910.120 Health and Safety Plan, a 29 CFR 1910.134 Confined Space Plan, and a 29 CFR 1910.1030 Bloodborne Pathogen Protection Plan for municipal employees of a large township on Long Island. In order for Walden to understand the operations that went on within the Township, Walden went on site tours, interviewed key employees, and reviewed existing policies. The HAZWOPER plan applied to all landfill site personnel, the bloodborne plan applied to first responders and lifeguards, and the confined space plan included identification of all applicable confined spaces and training specific personnel on entry procedures. Walden prepared a landfill specific HAZWOPER plan and conducted 40-hour HAZWOPER training for new employees and 8-hour refresher trainings of all HAZWOPER-trained personnel in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 Subpart E requirements. Additionally, Walden evaluated chemical storage and inventory records at 17 facilities and prepared annual SARA Title III Tier II reports. Walden enforced the necessary requirement to have SDS sheets at each facility to accurately reflect current materials on hand. A protocol was established to ensure that facilities receive SDS sheets with all chemical deliveries. Through this work, Walden built a growing relationship with the town, and the Town achieved compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
