Funding Available for Small Legacy Manufacturers in NYS

by | May 23, 2024

As discussed in Walden’s previous blog entry, Round XIV (14) of the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) has been launched in New York State (NYS). $10 million of the funding available through the State is reserved for the Small Manufacturer Modernization Grants Program by way of the Empire State Development (ESD) Initiative; the objective of this program is to enable small legacy (10+ years) manufacturers to remain competitive and continue to successfully operate via incorporation of advanced technology. For each manufacturer, a minimum of $50,000 in grant funding must be requested.

Who is eligible for this funding opportunity?

  • Both for-profit and not-for-profit manufacturers are eligible
  • In order to apply, the manufacturer must be operating in NYS for a minimum of 10 years due to the legacy initiative
  • Manufacturers must have between five and 99 full-time employees in NYS for the last three years
  • A minimum of 30% of product sales must be outside the state, with some exceptions that could be considered

What can funding be used for?

  • Purchasing land or buildings
  • Purchasing equipment
  • Purchasing furniture/fixtures
  • Environmental remediation
  • Building demolition
  • Other uses will be considered by NYS on a case-by-case basis

How can manufacturers apply?

The CFA must be submitted for review by the ESD and the respective Regional Council (there are 10 distinct regions across New York) for which the funding is requested. Questions and other information requests should be directed towards the respective Regional Office. The NYS CFA can be accessed via https://apps.cio.ny.gov/apps/cfa/.

Walden has extensive experience in acquiring grant funding for clients and designing and managing subsequent site improvement projects. In addition to this grant funding, there are other opportunities for assistance in implementing sustainability actions across your operations. For example, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) distributes funding to organizations for energy efficiency studies. As a NYSERDA FlexTech Consultant, Walden can help your organization determine what funding you should pursue to maximize chances for an award.
