The Semi-Annual Stormwater Sampling Deadline Is Coming Up!

by | Dec 12, 2024

The deadline for semi-annual stormwater sampling and monitoring for the second half of 2024 is fast approaching! This applies to facilities with coverage under the Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Industrial Activity (GP-0-23-001). With the deadline being December 31, 2024, time is running short. Additionally, discharge monitoring reports (DMRs) for the second half of the year are due on January 28, 2025. Do not forget about annual compliance reports (ACRs) either, as 2024 ACRs must also be submitted by January 28, 2025.

Failure to submit either the ACR or DMR may result in violations and/or hefty fines so be sure to complete your sampling and monitoring before the end of the year! If your site is covered under the MSGP, your site’s Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) will detail your monitoring and sampling protocols.

To avoid issues with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), it is important to know that there is a responsibility of completing semi-annual monitoring reports, and violations may come if:

  • Numeric Effluent Limitations are exceeded;
  • There was a failure to implement previously corrected actions;
  • There was a failure to maintain proper documentation; and/or
  • Reports for Benchmark Monitoring Cutoff Concentrations are not submitted.

Compliance with the MSGP requires multiple sampling and monitoring events through the year, as well as the submission of data and reports. Walden understands this might be a handful.
