Construction Safety Week: May 6–10, 2024
Next week is Construction Safety Week. This event was started in 2014 with the purpose of encouraging construction companies to reflect on and recommit to their safety practices. The ultimate goal is zero accidents or incidents on every job site.
The theme of this year’s Construction Safety Week is “value every voice.” All workers on a construction project, no matter their role, need to know their responsibilities and be accountable for the part they play in contributing to that project’s safety. This theme also emphasizes the importance of the opinions and ideas of every individual involved in the work and aims to remind people that their voices are heard and do make an impact.
This year’s Construction Safety Week coincides with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction. In a safety stand-down, an organization takes a break from work to discuss safety issues, allowing workers to voice concerns so that employers and employees can have a dialogue. OSHA Authorized Training

While most organizations recognize that workers should have taken the 10-hour class at a minimum, many municipalities are requiring employers to provide additional training to staff, like the 30-hour course. Typically recommended for supervisors, it is now standard in some cities for all workers.
