Are you on the look out for the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) to be released? Each year, these grant opportunities are announced near the very beginning of May. Along with the announcement is a detailed list of programs available for project funding.
Since the creation of the CFA in 2011, the goal has been to expand economic growth in New York. The ten Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC) were put into place to decide how funding will get divided and where it will be dispersed, each year focusing on different areas for funding awards. These Councils are comprised of local experts and stakeholders from business, academia, local government, and non-governmental organizations. Those selected for a portion of the funds are chosen based on a number of factors. Grants from the CFA help to expand the economy by creating private-sector jobs, promoting private investment, and regenerating neglected areas of NYS. The program is designed to be flexible in order to allow for projects across the state to attain funding.
In 2021 there were over 30 programs available in nine state agencies. Some of these programs included Environmental Protection, Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, Brownfield Opportunity Area Program, Water Quality Improvement Project Program, Non-Agricultural Nonpoint Source Planning and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Mapping Grant Program, Energy Efficiency Programs, and more.
