Suffolk County Board of Health is reviewing proposed regulation changes for petroleum bulk storage (PBS) in Suffolk County. Currently Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS) regulates PBS and Chemical Bulk Storage (CBS) under Article 12. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) revised their PBS regulations, now 6 NYCRR Part 613, in October 2015. For Suffolk County to remain the primary regulator of PBS storage, they must modify their rules to align with the NYSDEC revised regulations. Suffolk County has combined their Article 12 and NYSDEC 6 NYCRR Part 613 rules to make the new proposed Article 18. Article 18 will govern all PBS within Suffolk County. Any storage that does not fall under PBS regulated material will continued to be governed by Article 12.

The Suffolk County Board of Health is holding a meeting to discuss the proposed Article 18. At this time, anyone concerned with the proposed changes can voice their opinion before the regulations are finalized and go into effect.

The Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday May 17, 2017 at 9:30am at Suffolk County Department of Health Services Board Room, located at 3500 Sunrise Highway, Building 200, Suite 124, Great River, New York.
