Walden’s Principal, Joseph Heaney, III P.E., Presents to Young Engineers at Hofstra University

Building a career in engineering isn’t just about honing technical skills,” said Joseph M. Heaney III, P.E., Principal of Walden Environmental Engineering, as he presented his insights at the Executive/Engineer Speaker Series hosted by the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science at Hofstra University on September 28th.

In his presentation titled, “Planning and Executing a Successful Career,” Heaney emphasized the importance of organizing a goal, setting the goal and establishing priorities, and achieving the goal. He spoke about the business of engineering, business development, productivity, time management and more. His experience and knowledge of the field of engineering helped to guide students in the right direction towards a successful career.  Walden Environmental Engineering is dedicated to helping students along the way. Walden has sponsored the Hofstra Co-Op program for 3 years.

Engineers need to learn to differentiate themselves from their peers,” said Heaney. Over the past 22 years of business only three individuals walked into my office with a resume to ask for an interview. I hired all three. Their actions differentiated them.”

Listed in Walden’s Core Values are social responsibility and community involvement. Walden continues its outreach into Nassau County to mentor students in the STEM fields.
