Walden Environmental Engineering was founded with a focus on providing environmental engineering services to the local community. Walden still works with their first client and over the last 25 years, has become a trusted advisor to many others.

It all started in 1995 when Joseph M. Heaney III, PE launched Walden in Oyster Bay, NY. Since then, Walden has served clients, solving a growing array of environmental engineering challenges. From day one, Walden brought an exceptional level of technical expertise, collaborative partnership, and commitment to problem-solving to its clients’ markets. Walden’s dedicated team is comprised of experienced environmental/civil engineers and consultants who share the same core values and passion for expanding their knowledge. The firm serves corporations, municipalities, and utilities in developing comprehensive solutions to a wide range of needs. Many of Walden’s clients have been with the firm since the beginning, a testament to the excellent service the firm provides.  Joe Heaney, Walden’s Principal said, “When I founded Walden, I never envisioned it would be thriving 25 years later and that so many of my basic tenets would flourish as they have: learning, client service, direct access to senior personnel for all of our clients, strong commitment to ethics, and most importantly, quick responsiveness to the client’s immediate needs”.

Headquartered in Oyster Bay, Walden launched offices in the Hudson Valley and Albany Capital District in 2017 to expand coverage to clients. In 2018, Walden expanded further, with an office in Fort Wayne, Indiana serving the Midwestern market through its acquisition of The Secant Group, LLC, an engineering and consulting firm specializing in drinking water, sanitary sewer and stormwater utility projects for municipally-owned utilities, privately-owned utilities and special utility districts.

“The past 25 years have been challenging and rewarding for all the engineers, geologists, and scientists at Walden, and the clients that we have interacted with. Walden is a learning organization where we invest in training to better serve our clients.  In addition, Walden has embraced training and mentoring of our junior staff, and provides opportunities for college engineering students and local high school students to learn more about pursuing careers in engineering,” said Joe Heaney. “Personally, I welcome the opportunities that the complex civil/environmental engineering field provides every day and I am so proud of all Walden’s staff and managers.  I look forward to further growth both locally and geographically in the coming years as we continue to cost-effectively serve our clients’ expanding compliance and development needs.”
