Fort Wayne City Utilities is proud to present their annual, all day workshop titled Stormwater Management Advances: Technology, Regulatory and New Perspectives on Thursday, October 3, 2019. City Utilities will be hosting several speakers and guests at Parkview Field in the Suite Level Lounge to introduce important topics regarding advancements in better stormwater management. Related topics that will be covered throughout the day include using Polymers as a Best Management Practice, New Technologies for Finding Illicit Discharges, Indiana Permit Program Changes for 2019, Several Contractors’ Perspectives on Stormwater Management, and Regulations in Indiana for Engineers.
The all-day event offers up to 7.0 Professional Development Hours for Engineers. The conference includes continental breakfast, full lunch and free parking for the registration fee of $20.
Scott Harrigan from Harkin Aerial and Ted Nitza from our Walden team will be introducing “Drone Technology Tools for Stormwater” to present emerging techniques for finding and assessing illicit discharges using drones with thermal cameras. Scott and Ted are partnering together in research and development efforts regarding several civil and environmental topics. This is their first public presentation of this advanced use of this drone and camera technology targeting better water quality. Scott and Ted are scheduled to present at 11:00 AM in a day full of interesting presentations.

Scott Harrigan, Drone Pilot and Drone Industry Expert
Scott Harrigan, Harkin’s Principal and Chief Pilot, is an active member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the U.S. Civil Air Patrol/Air Force Auxiliary. Mr. Harrigan serves as Assistant Director to the Long Island Civil Air Patrol Unmanned Aircraft Program, and is committed to helping businesses and public entities enhance their services and achieve their goals through the efficiency gains of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Scott is savvy in all aspects of drone applications and data presentation. His skills are a valuable resource to the municipalities and private clients in assisting with the performance of tank and other above ground infrastructure and equipment, construction pre and post inspections and progress monitoring and documentation and advanced underground detection of failed or failing infrastructure.
Thomas, T. (Ted) Nitza, Jr., P.E., Senior Project Manager at Walden Environmental Engineering. Mr. Nitza is a New York registered Professional Engineer with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an MBA. Mr. Nitza has over 20 years of civil/environmental engineering experience in drinking water, sanitary sewer, stormwater utility, drainage and other water quality related fields. He has helped many municipalities and utilities succeed and grow through direct engineering efforts as well as through the development of new markets, relationships and approaches to organic customer growth and utility partnerships, shared services agreements and regionalization efforts. Mr. Nitza is involved in many research and development efforts for utilities including PFOSs and PFOAs, underground leak detection, stormwater quality and renewable energy. Mr. Nitza serves on Environmental and Conservation Boards for municipalities. In addition to direct civil and environmental engineering, his expertise includes planning and strategic business studies, rate and funding studies, expert testimony and utility related lobbying efforts.
