New York State has announced the launch of Round XIV (14) of the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA). Round XIV will be funded through programs provided by seven state agencies through the Regional Economic Development Councils Initiative (REDC).

This year, Empire State Development (ESD) has $100 million in funding available. Additionally, $50 million will be allocated to two new grant programs: The Capital Improvement Grants for Pro-Housing Communities Program ($40 million) and the Small Manufacturer Modernization Grants Program ($10 million).

The Capital Improvement Grants for Pro-Housing Communities Program aims to support more vibrant communities throughout the state. The Small Manufacturer Modernization Grants Program will provide funds for small manufacturers that will help them modernize their operations to improve efficiency and safeguard jobs. (Walden’s next blog will focus on the Small Manufacturer Modernization Grants Program.)

How Is Funding Awarded?

Similar to previous years, REDCs will identify projects in their region that support the region’s long-term strategic growth goals. Priority will be given to projects that offer workforce development and utilize local resources to stimulate regional economic development, such as revitalizing local waterfronts or historic site preservation. Each application will be rated based on the project’s alignment with the REDC’s plan for growth and project readiness.

Projects will be reviewed throughout the year and funding will be granted as they are approved until the money runs out. The submission for grant applications began on May 13 with the opening of the CFA and is set to close on July 31 at 4:00 pm.

Note that there are also several grant programs with open enrollment, meaning there is no deadline for applicants. Therefore, it is important to know what grant you are applying for and when the deadline is. For example, ESD has up to $177 million available in funding for their open enrollment programs.

For programs subject to the July 31 application deadline, almost $2 billion in funding is available from organizations that include Homes and Community Renewal, the Department of State, and ESD. For a full list of programs, visit the following site: https://regionalcouncils.ny.gov/.
