Laborer being trained on proper use of a scissor lift. May 6–10 is Construction Safety Week. If you’re like most employers, you think about how you can improve safety in your operation every day, not just during this time.

In fact, each day, numerous workers throughout the country are injured while doing their jobs in industries that are perceived to have an increased level of danger. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Many of those injuries could have been avoided if staff had been properly trained.

Every employer has a basic responsibility to provide staff with a safe work environment. Employee knowledge and education go a long way toward helping to build such settings and to do that requires training. Specifically, OSHA Outreach Training, more commonly referred to as OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.

The OSHA Outreach Training Program was created decades ago to address safety in industries like manufacturing, construction, and agriculture, which had experienced alarming numbers of incidents and fatalities. The Outreach Training Program serves as the foundation for many organizations’ EHS programs.

The benefits of providing your staff with OSHA Outreach Training are broad and include–

  • Aid your organization in building a best-in-class safety culture
  • Increase employee engagement and accountability
  • Help employees recognize and mitigate hazards
  • Build support for safety at all levels of the organization
  • Build a reputation as a safe place to work, which helps with recruitment and retention

Can you afford not to train your staff?

Walden has staff who are OSHA-authorized trainers for both General Industry (1910) and Construction (1926). We can come to your facility at a time convenient for you or provide space for training.

In-person outreach classes allow your staff to work together, improving learning acquisition and retention while making the class fun for all involved. If attendees have questions, they can ask the instructor directly rather than having to email someone and wait for a response.

In-person training will also help build relationships among employees, facilitate meaningful discussions about improving safety, and encourage open communication.
