Fatema Begum joined Walden in November 2018. She is originally from Bangladesh and obtained her B.Sc. degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Civil Engineering. In 2011, she came to the United States to continue her studies due to her strong interest in the Environmental and Water sector. In 2012, she obtained her M.Sc. from State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She was then rewarded the opportunity to become a Teaching and Research Assistant. Her M.Sc. research work was based on “Wind-driven Mixing in Near-Shore Lake Environments: Application to Phosphorus Dynamics.”
Her past experience includes, drainage design, grading plans and AutoCAD drafting. Eventually she started working as a Bridge Hydraulic Engineer. She has experience in bridge hydraulics and stormwater management fields where she gained expertise in Flood Insurance Study (FIS), Drainage Manuals of different states, and Hydraulic engineering Circulars (HEC series).
Fatema is an Approved Hydraulic Engineer in Connecticut DOT. In 2017, she obtained her Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in Civil, Environmental and Water Resource Engineering in Connecticut.
She specializes in Flood Zoning Modification, Stormwater Management, Groundwater Sampling, Environmental Permitting, Hydrologic and Hydraulics (H & H), Scour, Floodway Analysis and Report Writing. She is efficient in using ArcGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, StormCAD, GeoHECRAS, Coastal Hazard Analysis Modeling Program (CHAMP), WinTR-55, Bluebeam, HY-8, SURFER, VISUAL AEM, Visual ModFlow, R Function, and STELLA.
