
Class A Operator
The Class A Operator has primary responsibility for operation and maintenance of UST systems and their overall compliance. Designated Class A Operators must pass the NYSDEC Class A or Class A/B Operator exam in order to be certified.
Class B Operator
The Class B Operator (can also be the Class A Operator) has day to day responsibility for implementing requirements to keep the UST system in compliance. Designated Class B Operators must pass the NYSDEC Class B or Class A/B Operator exam in order to be certified.
Class C Operator
The Class C Operator is primarily responsible for initial response to emergencies in the event of a spill or a release from the UST system. There is no exam for Class C Operators. Class C Operators must be trained and assessed under the direction of a certified Class A or Class B Operator.
Class A/B/C Operator
An individual can serve as the Class A, Class B, and Class C Operator by passing the Class A/B Operator exam and understanding the responsibilities of Class C Operators.
