Congratulations to Walden Assistant Project Manager Amanda Chatfield on earning her Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential! Amanda has been with Walden since early 2022, and in her time with the firm she has continuously demonstrated her commitment to professional development. First joining Walden as an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist I, she was promoted to EHS Specialist II in 2023, and then Assistant Project Manager in March of this year. Amanda is an invaluable member of our team and we are excited to celebrate her latest career milestone!
The CSP credential is granted by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), a nonprofit organization that issues globally accredited certifications to EHS professionals. There are several steps that applicants must complete to acquire their CSP, including:
- Earn a bachelor’s degree
- Gain four or more years of EHS experience. At least half of this experience must be prevention-focused
- Attain an alternate BCSP-approved safety credential, such as the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification or the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential. Amanda earned her ASP toward the end of 2025
- Pass the CSP exam
Once attaining the certification, CSPs must complete a certain number of professional development courses in order to be eligible to recertify, which is required every five years.
The CSP certification is recognized as “the Gold Standard in safety credentialing” and is widely regarded as an indicator that an individual is committed to excellence in safety. In the words of Walden EHS Director David Garner: “This is a major professional accomplishment that reflects the time, discipline, and technical knowledge Amanda has built through her work in EHS. The CSP is not an easy credential to earn, and passing the exam is a meaningful step in her continued growth as a safety professional.”
