Congratulations to Hofstra student Ashmini Jaisingh on completing her co-op internship with Walden! We are very grateful to Ashmini for all of her hard work over these past several months. She has applied her computer science background to help streamline and automate several of Walden’s key processes and procedures, and really made a lot of our lives easier. She will be missed, and we wish her all the best as she enters her final year of college!

About Ashmini
Ashmini is a rising senior at Hofstra University, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2027. She is majoring in computer science, with a concentration in AI, and minoring in mathematics. In the future, she aspires to use programming and data to solve real-world problems, while staying open to different paths as she grows – and she has demonstrated these qualities throughout her time with Walden!
Ashmini said: “I enjoy working at Walden because the work I do has clear, tangible impact. It’s rewarding to see the tools and systems I help build directly improve workflows and make data more accessible and useful for the team.”
Ashmini’s first Walden project entailed building a large language model (LLM) indexer. She utilized her computer programming knowledge to create a tool that automatically searches the web for specific information at defined intervals, assembles and saves the data into an easily usable format, and sends it directly to Walden team members. This has helped to automate marketing processes and drastically reduces the time and effort that the team would otherwise need to devote to research and data management tasks.
One of Ashmini’s favorite projects at Walden has been working with our billing software, BQE CORE. She collaborated with our accounting team to understand current processes and again applied her programming background to improve efficiencies. Over the course of this project, Ashmini learned more about Excel, Google Sheets, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs, which are essentially systems that enable different softwares to interact with each other and exchange data), and the business world as a whole.
About the Co-op Experience
Many university STEM departments have co-op programs, which allow students to gain experience working at a firm in their chosen area of study for several months during a school year. Walden has partnered with Hofstra’s Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, which administers the university’s co-op program for engineering and computer science students, for well over a decade.
Walden consistently strives to give back to the surrounding communities, and serving as a co-op partner firm is one way that we work toward this. Through a co-op experience, students develop an understanding of how businesses run and what is expected of entry-level hires, boosting their readiness to enter the workforce after graduation. Companies also benefit greatly from the unique contributions, knowledge, and perspective that co-op interns bring to the job!
