On June 5, 23 Walden employees took part in our annual Volunteer Day at Starlight Park in the Bronx, NY. Starlight Park is a New York City Parks Department facility located on the Bronx River. Our work was organized and directed by the Bronx River Alliance, a not-for-profit devoted to the stewardship of the river and its adjacent parks and trails.
Working together in smaller groups, the team pulled invasive vegetation from the showcase garden areas and collected trash across the 14-acre park. We also shared breakfast and lunch with Bronx River Alliance personnel and learned more about the organization’s mission and the impact of their environmental stewardship work.
Walden Day, celebrated annually around the firm’s anniversary, is a day where our staff and management step away from regular business operations to perform community service. We strive to partner with a new organization each year so that we are able to give back to the different areas that we serve in a variety of ways. One of Walden’s core values is being Community Oriented, and volunteer work is one key way that we live this.
Joseph M. Heaney III, P.E., Walden’s President and Founder, has championed Walden’s community involvement throughout our 30+ years in business. He said: “I believe it is important to connect with our communities – whether by working as a group like this, joining a local board, mentoring a student, or taking on a leadership role in a professional organization. It keeps us all grounded and connected to our greater community. Thank you to everyone who participated.”
