Walden is very pleased to announce our latest round of employee promotions! Effective September 29, engineers Darren Ikin, CFM and Ethan Lo have been promoted to Project Manager I and Project Engineer II, respectively. Congratulations to both Darren and Ethan!

Darren Ikin, CFM

Darren has 20 years of experience working in the environmental engineering industry, both on Long Island and in Sydney, Australia. He originally worked with Walden from 2006 until 2008, and then rejoined our firm in November 2015 – and he has been with us ever since! Darren is a long-time fixture on many municipal projects and maintains strong relationships with a diverse array of repeat clients, including both municipalities and private companies.

Darren applies his engineering expertise to assignments involving water system management, construction, and environmental monitoring. He is adept at tank and drainage system design, soil and groundwater remediation, bid document preparation and management, grant writing, and construction oversight. He is a NYSDEC Class A/B Certified Operator and a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).

Darren obtained his B.E. in Environmental Engineering from Wollongong University and his M.E. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Technology Sydney. His care for the environment is evident in his work, and Walden is lucky to have him on the team. We are delighted to celebrate Darren as he steps into this well-deserved role!

Ethan Lo

Ethan has been with Walden for over three years, having joined the team in June of 2022 as a Project Engineer I. He graduated from the University of Connecticut that May with his B.S. in Environmental Engineering. Ethan works mainly on projects involving contractor oversight, sampling, remedial system installation and testing, solid waste management, and opacity testing.

In the midst of recent staffing changes, Ethan has shown great initiative, taking on the responsibility of managing Walden’s opacity testing work. He became certified as a USEPA Method 9 Visible Emission Evaluator soon after starting at Walden, and he has been conducting these tests for clients ever since. It has been incredibly gratifying to witness Ethan assume this leadership role. We are very proud of how much he has grown in his time so far with Walden, and we are thrilled to acknowledge his talents today and continue working with him as he progresses further in his career as an engineer!

Growth at Walden

While we are always looking to fill positions with talented new hires, we also strive to promote employees from within! Continuous learning is one of Walden’s core values, and promotions are one way that we can recognize employees who demonstrate their commitment to this value.

Congratulations again to Darren and Ethan. You are both very deserving of these new roles, and both Walden’s staff and our clients are very fortunate that we get to work with you every day!
