Walden is delighted to announce our latest round of employee promotions! Our four staff members who have earned new titles are:

- Michael Tolan, Project Scientist II (previously Project Scientist I)
- Cinthya Vidal, Project Engineer II (previously Project Engineer I)
Congratulations to each of these talented individuals. They have all demonstrated outstanding commitment, hard work, and contributions to Walden’s success and culture. We appreciate all that they do and look forward to their continued growth in these new (and extremely well deserved) roles! Read a little bit about each of these employees below.
Gwendolyn Burke
Ms. Burke joined Walden in the fall of 2023. She is a Professional Engineer licensed in New York and has over 20 years of experience working in engineering. Earlier in her career, she spent several years with the MTA Bridge and Tunnel Authority as a Project Engineer at the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge. At Walden, she leads our Hudson Valley office and works with clients on drinking water, stormwater, wastewater, asset management, and brownfield development projects.
Erica Johnston
Ms. Johnston started working at Walden as a Project Scientist in 2017 and was promoted to Project Manager I in early 2022. She has many years of experience as an environmental consultant, working closely with clients throughout Long Island and the New York Metropolitan area. She is Walden’s resident brownfield expert and is skilled in the areas of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, construction oversight, waste characterization, soil vapor investigation, and stormwater management.
Michael Tolan
Mr. Tolan is a Project Scientist working in Walden’s Oyster Bay office. He has over five years of experience in natural resource management and science education. His previous roles as a Research Scientist with the NOAA, a Park Ranger/Biologist for the National Park Service, and a Science Teacher at a local high school have given him hands-on scientific research experience across a range of disciplines. He uses his technical expertise and commitment to environmental improvement to offer solutions to clients.
Cinthya Vidal
Ms. Vidal is based in Walden’s Oyster Bay headquarters and works as a Project Engineer. She earned her Bachelors in Environmental Engineering from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City. Before joining Walden, she gained experience working in the construction and HVAC industries. In her time at Walden, she has gained her Class A/B Operator and Method 9 Visible Emission Evaluator certifications. She is experienced at performing tank inspections and opacity tests, field sampling, air permitting, conducting construction oversight, and developing site designs.
