The Semi-Annual Stormwater Sampling Deadline Is December 31, 2022
Prepare your facility for the semi-annual stormwater sampling deadline!
If you own an industrial facility, you must be aware of the stormwater discharge regulations that apply. Under the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Water Act, stormwater discharges from industrial facilities are not allowed unless you have a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. In New York State, facilities may obtain permits from the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) for sector-specific industrial stormwater discharges. The SPDES is an NPDES-approved program.
To apply for an SPDES permit, facility owners need to submit a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Notice of Intent. The SWPPP lays out the facility’s plan for how it will comply with SPDES permit requirements. When the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) issues a permit, the facility owner must ensure that their site remains in compliance. To do so, you can schedule regular inspections of your facility, visual assessments of stormwater, and quarterly/semi-annual stormwater sampling.
For facilities that must submit either quarterly or semi-annual reports, the deadline is December 31. By this date, you must complete all necessary sampling and inspections and submit your Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs). All DMRs must be submitted electronically via the EPA’s NetDMR system.
Inspection sampling deadlines are divided quarterly, and the dates are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.
At Walden, we offer several stormwater services, and we can help you with SPDES permitting and SWPPP compliance. Please contact us at 516-758-1273 to talk to an engineer or scientist who is experienced in stormwater management.
