Walden is pleased to announce that Cari Covell has joined our team as a project engineer. She is based at the headquarters office in Oyster Bay, NY.
Covell has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware, with a minor in Environmental Engineering. She also has a Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Engineering from Reykjavik University, where she is also pursuing another post-graduate degree remotely.
Covell has experience as a junior estimator where she worked for a well-known construction company on Long Island. While there, she worked on quantity takeoffs for hazardous waste sites through earthwork and structural mechanics analyses. Additionally, she assisted senior staff with writing cost estimates and project proposal reports.
Since 2014, Covell has been located in Reykjavik, Iceland where she pursued her Master’s degree while performing extensive research work in sustainable and geothermal energy engineering. As part of a case study, her thesis included carrying out analyses of hydraulic stimulation methods for direct use (hot water). She also worked as an engineering intern on a Tracer Test Flow project for which she generated technical and user manuals and reports that included extensive data collection of geothermal well dynamics to calculate mass flow.
Upon receiving her Master’s degree in 2016, she began work towards her PhD, also in Reykjavik. That work entailed creation of the Valgardur database of hundreds of rock samples. A portion of data was originally garnered by Covell through laboratory testing of minerology that led to the analysis of the relationship of altered minerals and porosity. Covell continues to work towards her PhD while working for Walden as a Project Engineer.
The entire team at Walden looks forward to working with Covell in the field and office as we continue to grow and build a diverse, top-notch team.
