Ted Nitza, P.E., Walden Environmental Engineering (Walden) Vice President will present two sessions at the NYC Watershed Science and Technical Conference September 9, 2021. The conference is held yearly by the New York Water Environment Association, Inc. (NYWEA). NYWEA is a non-profit organization. According to their website they “will serve the best interest of the public by promoting sustainable clean water quality management through science, education and training.”
To do that, they host several conferences throughout the year. Because the pandemic has affected the ability to host in-person events for many organizations, NYWEA will have a virtual conference this year. In addition to Nitza, this conference will feature speakers from NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) and other engineering firms.
Nitza is presenting at two sessions. The first, Using Aerial Thermography to Find and Investigate Possible Illicit Discharges in Stormwater Management Systems, will be presented with the help of Rebecca Stouges (also from Walden) and Scott Harrigan of Harkin Aerial. Walden and Harkin Aerial often work together on projects similar in nature to the subject matter. The presentation will focus on ways to use drones to improve water quality and detect/locate possible discharges in stormwater.
The second presentation, Shared Services and Intermunicipal Agreements to Improve Water Quality, will focus on Nitza’s work in crafting shared services agreements among municipalities and other stakeholders. This presentation will discuss the Fort Wayne and the Allen County Regional Water and Sewer District’s long-term agreement to cooperate on better water quality for the Great Lakes basin.
