Once again, NYS has opened the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA). This round makes funding available for up to $150 million in cash awards and $75 million in Excelsior Tax Credits. This is the twelfth round of the CFA, which was started to streamline the State’s grant application process by offering applicants a single submission that numerous state agencies use. The intention of grant funding and the CFA is to improve New York’s business climate and allocate resources throughout the State more fairly.

To manage the prioritization of project funding in each of the State’s ten regions, the State created Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC). The REDCs identify projects in their region that support the long-term strategic growth of that area. Priority projects range from workforce development to water treatment and historic site preservation. Each application is rated based on the project’s alignment with the REDC’s plan for growth and the project readiness.

For this round of funding, Regional Councils will still focus on implementing their strategic vision. Every project submitted through the CFA will be eligible for funding from numerous state agency programs, which are structured to spur community revitalization and business growth.

Program funding for this round includes up to $26 million from the Department of State for projects to revitalize local waterfronts and promote Brownfield redevelopment; $25 million from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for projects that produce carbon-neutral energy; and up to $92 million from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for projects that improve water quality.

These are just a few examples of funding available through Round XII. Applications for this year’s CFA will be accepted through 4:00 pm on July 29th.

Entities that are interested in pursuing grant funding should keep in mind that there is also funding available through Open Enrollment Programs. Those programs are managed by specific agencies like Empire State Development, NYSERDA, and New York Power Authority (NYPA). These programs accept applications throughout the year, so applicants do not need to submit by the July 29th deadline.
